Leverage IoT sensory data to build the smart cities of tomorrow

Background

Our client is a leading construction, civil engineering, and facilities management company. The group employs around 18,000 people, with main operations in Europe, and is committed to maintain its place on the Climate Change A List.

Challenge

Our client was awarded the contracts for two large smart city projects in the Brussels area. A smart city is an urban area that uses different types of electronic methods and sensors to collect data. Insights gained from that data are then used to efficiently manage assets, resources, and services. Being able to capture, transform, interpret, and act on the collected data is a key aspect of a smart city concept.

Approach

We started by defining the best-in-class data architecture and selected the proper technological components to support this initiative. Once the architecture was defined, we built comprehensive KPI-dashboards in Power BI, including all relevant smart city information, while benefiting from automated data sourcing to ensure ease-of-use.

Key results

01
Pragmatic, innovative, and future-proof architecture, tailored to the existing context
02
Best-of-breed and affordable technological components
03
Involvement of subject matter experts

Benefits

Our client now has a solution that delivers stable, reliable, and accessible smart city data that is made available through powerful dashboards and management reporting. The improved and valuable insights in this data lead to better fact-based decisions to leverage competitive strengths and build a sustainable tomorrow.
