The customer is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to serving the public interest through research, policy development, and advocacy. As part of its compliance obligations, the customer is required to report annual lobbying activity in accordance with federal regulations. Historically, the organization relied on a custom-built Legacy Lobby Tracker tool to generate Excel-based reports using data extracted from Workday, Salesforce, and PeopleSoft. Over time, this system presented significant challenges, including security vulnerabilities, high maintenance demands, and limited usability, creating inefficiencies in managing and reporting lobbying activities.
The clients existing Lobby Tracker was built on an outdated .NET framework that relied on manual Excel generation, creating inefficiencies and operational risk. The system had security vulnerabilities, struggled to manage non-standardized data from Salesforce, Workday, and PeopleSoft, and required manual intervention for record deletions and updates. Additionally, the tool lacked flexibility, making it difficult to add new data fields or implement enhancements, which hindered the organization’s ability to efficiently meet its annual lobbying compliance requirements.
Keyrus began by conducting a discovery and requirements review with the client's Government Relations and IT teams to fully understand functional needs and compliance requirements. Data from Salesforce, Workday, and PeopleSoft was validated and centralized in Amazon Redshift via the Civis Platform. ETL pipelines were developed to migrate six core datasets, ensuring consistency and accuracy. A new front-end interface was designed in Tableau to enable both dynamic filtering and seamless Excel exports. The project concluded with user acceptance testing, comprehensive training sessions, and detailed documentation to support ongoing adoption and maintenance.
The new solution strengthened the customers compliance posture through automated processes and traceable audit logs, ensuring all lobbying activity is fully documented and easily verifiable. Operational overhead was reduced by minimizing manual intervention, allowing staff to focus on higher-value work. Centralizing data in Amazon Redshift and aligning with internal IT governance policies improved security and reduced risks associated with the legacy system. Built on modern BI and cloud-based data warehousing tools, the platform offers long-term maintainability, scalability for future enhancements, and flexibility to adapt to evolving compliance and reporting requirements.
