Migrating workloads to AWS with Rapid Docker

Background

Rapid Docker is for organizations that want to migrate workloads to Amazon ECS or EKS from almost any hosting platform, including on-prem, Azure, or other AWS accounts or regions.

Challenge

Many organizations want to migrate their traditional VM-based or even server-based workloads to containers, but get quickly caught up in the complexity. Even a relatively straightforward application requires researching and choosing a platform, migrating the application to a containerized workload, and adapting build, testing, and release processes to the new environment. Rapid Docker is our offering to our customers to swiftly get them past the initial hurdle of migrating to a containerized environment and immediately benefitting from AWS’s managed service offerings.

Approach

Rapid Docker is a packaged offering of battle-tested methods and tools designed to quickly get customers migrated to Amazon ECS or EKS. The process begins with a short discovery and Well-Architected Review (WAR) of the workload, which allows both Keyrus and the application team to understand the requirements, dependencies, and unique characteristics of the workload. As part of the discovery process, Keyrus explains the differences between Amazon ECS and EKS and will offer recommendations for the platform and migration based on the discovery. After the platform is decided, Keyrus works side-by-side with the application team to get the workload containerized and migrated, and to modify or rebuild the release process to accommodate the new platform. In most cases, the time from start to finish is measured in weeks rather than the typical months or years required for organizations attempting to migrate on their own.
