Keyrus proudly brings you the summary of the most exciting innovations announced at the recent Snowflake Summit 26 in San Francisco.
At Snowflake Summit 26, Snowflake announced that CoCo - formerly Cortex Code - is now a native desktop application, generally available from day one of the conference. That is a meaningful step beyond a browser-embedded assistant.
CoCo is scoped to the Snowflake environment. It understands your schemas, your data models, and the platform's patterns in a way a generic coding tool cannot. Snowflake's own press release describes CoCo as enabling builders to automate workflows, develop apps, and operationalise AI on enterprise data through a simple prompt. Real-world adoption is already significant - the product scaled to more than 7,100 users and was described by Snowflake as its fastest-growing product in history.
The release at Summit adds the ability for CoCo to automatically discover and use an organisation's semantic layer, meaning it works with the business definitions your team has already built - not around them. Fanatics, Thomson Reuters, and WHOOP were named as production customers.
For data engineering teams across our client base, the practical value is throughput. The gap between the volume of transformation and pipeline work required and the capacity available to deliver it is a persistent constraint in South Africa. A coding agent grounded in your actual Snowflake environment addresses that directly.
What CoCo does not do is remove the need for skilled engineers to review and own the output. Well-governed, well-documented Snowflake environments will see the most immediate return.
